Go-to Thanksgiving Decor

I've always loved Thanksgiving, and enjoy bringing out the cozy wool blankets in Tartan Plaids of brown, dark green, and tans, vintage Turkeys, cornucopias filled with Harvest goods, and of course my favorite Brown Transferware. I'm usually in a hurry to start decorating for Christmas, yet I never want to totally bypass this wonderful Late Fall Holiday, dedicated to love of family, friends, and gratefulness for God's blessings.

I want to share a few Thanksgiving pieces that I've used for years. They may rotate from room to room, within different vignettes, but they always seem to show up each year to help celebrate. I put together this woodsy urn a few years ago using grapevine twigs, Fall leaves, berries, pine cones, deer-shed antlers and a variety of fine feathered friends.

I use vintage prints, usually on the Entry Console, but sometimes do change out bigger pieces when they are seasonal or Holiday themes.

I painted a wildly colorful resin turkey a few years ago, to go with more neutral decor. He was pretty handsome, but a little too flamboyant for me.

Quilts, wool Tartan blankets and throws, and pillows are brought out and layered on the white wicker settee in the Kitchen Sitting Area. Extras end up on chairs, sofas, and ottomans. Late Fall and Christmas are the only times in the year that I can use the "woolies" and they just set the mood for a cozy Winter setting.

You can see that through the years I mix the blankets and the pillows around with different wreaths. I found these adorable wool "hooked" pillows several years ago, and bring them out when the weather gets cooler.

just a little tweaking year to year

A favorite place to decorate for ANY Holiday is the Kitchen Baker's Rack. It's my go-to spot for seasonal fun. Vintage turkeys always make an appearance here in the kitchen. I used to have several more, but we had a little accident several years ago where they must have tried to make an escape. Several ended up in a pile on the floor in pieces, along with a vintage Transferware Turkey Platter.

Vintage metal trays with a Fall Vignette are usually found on the Baker's Rack. They are a little dented and well used, but they still have a lot of seasonal charm.

Just like the resin turkey, I found this porcelain cornucopia several years at probably Hobby Lobby. When I started using a neutral color scheme I knew that a coat of paint would help it blend into the lighter Fall palette.

Here it is before it got the magic white paintbrush.

The Brown Transferware takes center stage in the Baker's Rack during Fall and Thanksgiving. Adding in some Fall/Winter berries and foliage help give it a little extra flavor.

White Pumpkins and a few leaves and berries
keep the Thanksgiving mantel pretty simple.

Changes have been pretty subtle these last few years. A change of quilts and blankets,
the wreath above the wicker and a different vignette on the coffee table/bench
but otherwise things are pretty much the same.

A little hard to imagine, but this scene will be changing very soon. I'll have a whole new backdrop for decorating, and a lot more space.

*We are still very much in the middle of renovations; painting the Living Room, Dining Room and Entry this weekend. We will have the hardwoods installed before Thanksgiving and the carpet the week after. We won't be starting to move into the house until early December at the earliest. Hubbs and I have done a lot of the painting, and still have a lot to go. I haven't been able to take good photos because I haven't wanted to mess with my camera coming and going, since we're not living there. But now that we're making good progress I'll have some "before and afters".
