Tit can’t be tiring to wait anymore Kingdom Hearts 3 but Square Enix is somehow able to keep up the hype for the long-awaited sequel with Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue and the next one Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 and 2.5 Remix. For the uninitiated Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a collection of a high definition remastered of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance (a Nintendo 3DS game released in 2012), Kingdom Hearts χ an hour-long cutscene that delves deep into the history of the series and finally, Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage which is basically a brand new 3 hour game and our first look at how some of the mechanics of Kingdom Hearts 3 will play on every launch.
So it goes without saying that A fragmentary passage is perhaps the most exciting part of this collection. The story is told from Aqua’s perspective and takes place after the events of the original Birth through sleep. The first thing you’ll notice is how beautiful the game looks on the PlayStation 4. Running at 60fps, the switch to Unreal Engine 4 has done wonders for the visual fidelity of the game. like Aqua feel so much better and this fluidity translates extremely well in combat.
“Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage doesn’t offer much in terms of customization and the only feature one can play with are the wardrobe unlocks which can be obtained by completing certain objectives. “
Kingdom Hearts the games are known for their fantastic worlds and art style and the series’ shift to modern technology has done wonders for the aesthetics of the game. The Castle of Dreams and the World disturbed due to the time lag during the first sections of the game, they are absolutely gorgeous and make browsing through them a complete blast. Aqua has various magical powers that she can use to eliminate enemies and through the power of Unreal engine 4, the various aftertreatment and particle effects generated by casting magic and killing enemies are sometimes amazing.
Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage doesn’t offer much in terms of customization and the only feature one can play with are wardrobe unlocks which can be achieved by completing certain goals. So overall, this short teaser manages to capture the essence of the Kingdom Hearts series but it’s rather light on content, lasting only 3 hours. If this is the kind of cohesive, solid, and smooth action players are going to experience in Kingdom Hearts 3 so Square Enix may have a winner in its hands.
“Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance remaster is really crisp with a better anti-aliasing system in place, high-resolution character models and support for 60fps of gameplay.”
As mentioned earlier, this collection also comes with a high definition remaster of Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance. However, the game has undergone drastic changes not only in the graphics departments, but also in the way the player controls several actions during the game. The various elements based on the touch screen have been converted so that they can take into account. Loads the traditional control scheme and the minigames have been translated into a card-based system. The remaster looks really crisp with a better anti-aliasing system in place as well as high-res character models and support for 60fps of gameplay.
Lasting a good 30 hours, the game introduced new concepts to the series like raising a likable Dream Eater which can take many forms. These creatures will fight by your side and provide you with support whenever the going gets tough. Once their link meter is full, they will be able to launch a devastating attack resulting in dazzling graphics effects.
As you may already know, the remaster also brings back the Drop system, which requires the player to switch between Sora and Riku. Once their time expires, you will be forced to change, but there are some items you can use to increase the time limit. While this system can be boring for some players, it actually adds more tension to the gameplay. I mean, imagine a situation where the system goes off during a battle scene? The Drop system ensures that there is never a dull moment between the two stories of Sora and Riku.
“This collection will not quench our thirst for Kingdom Hearts 3 but it surely got us excited about the future of the series. “
And finally we have the Kingdom Hearts χ Back cover which is a one hour cutscene telling the story of the origins of the game. Based on the mobile game Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts χ Back Cover focuses only on cutscenes without any sort of gameplay from the original game. Without spoiling anything, the cutscenes will provide some answers to the origins of the game but at the same time they will raise a number of questions.
At the end Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is a game primarily for fans. If you are a fan of the series, you will appreciate the long tradition provided by Kingdom Hearts 0.2: Birth By Sleep – A Fragmentary Passage but for the uninitiated, the game will just make you wonder what you are doing. This collection will not quench our thirst for Kingdom Hearts 3 but it surely got us excited about the future of the series.
This game has been tested on PlayStation 4.
